Sketchbook

Sketchbook, visual journal, creativity journal, artist workbook; call it what you want, it is a place to keep up your drawing muscles, work out new ideas, play with unfamiliar mediums, vent, experiment and generally have fun without being constrained by the need to produce a finished piece.
On this page I'll occasionally put up one of my current efforts.

Feb '17  Working on a little book that incorporates characters that live around my house. This is a rope Thai dragon with a lot of presence!

Jan '17   Blue Jays have such an attitude!

October  Rural adventures...chasing down stray sheep.

October  Got to watch this enormous elegant yellow and black garden spider as she worked on her web and caught insects, all within a few feet of our front door.

September!  Hard not to be inspired by the luscious fruit this year.  Green Zebra tomato at the top then two nectarines. On the right side a gorgeous peach.

Nov13 Our sauna and messy construction site as we build a new shop. It feels well into autumn and the weather pushing all of us to finish outside work!

Trying out my new M.Graham gouache. Fun and a learning curve!

April 3rd           There is one model always at hand....

A page from the journal I kept for International Fake Journal Month (IFJM).  You make up a character and journal every day, in real time, through their eyes.  Challenging and pretty fun!

This winter I took a great on-line course with Sketchbook Skool and this page was inspired by one of our teachers, Tommy Kane, who draws insanely detailed wonderful drawings.
We had the coldest February in either 80 years, or, on record, according to who you listen to. Either way, this was a nice way to spend some hours in a pleasantly warm room, looking out at endless vistas of snow.
